You had me at chocolate

Warm Chocolate Cake

Are you ready kids? It's that time again! It's SUGAR HIGH FRIDAY, Yay!! Sugar High Friday is the monthly event started by Jennifer, the Domestic Goddess, and is being hosted this month by David Lebovitz. The theme this month is Chocolate by Brand. Choose a brand of chocolate, make something and explain why you chose that brand in particular.

Chocolate is one of my favorite things. At all times, there are several types of chocolate in my pantry. Some for snacking, some for emergency batches of cookies and there's always some in the freezer. Freezer you say? Yes, the freezer. Last summer, during the heat wave in New York, I forgot about the tons of chocolate I had in the pantry. A day or so into the heat wave, I remembered the chocolate and checked them out in a panic, the nice bars of chocolate turned into blobs. I didn't know what to do, so I chucked them all in the freezer. Since the chocolate had been melted down, I could only use them in a melted state. Included in the blob was one of the two bars of Felchlin's Cru Sauvage bars, I reported on here. Since it was a pretty expensive bar of chocolate, I was wary of using it on just anything. When this SHF challenge came up, I knew this was the opportunity to use the bar..now..what to use it on..I knew exactly what it was. Jean-Georges Vongerichten's, Warm, Soft Chocolate Cake.

This recipe is extremely easy, uses minimal ingredients - therefore highlighting the chocolate flavor - and is easily quartered. I mention the quarter-ing, as I planned to make it my little treat.

Warm Chocolate Cake

Wow, the cake was exactly what I wanted. The chocolate provided a dark chocolate flavor with a bit of acidity - which worked nicely in this cake. The completely baked parts had a lighter chocolate flavor - but once you got into the molten center - the full chocolate flavor hit you. mmm..that's all I have to say. It left me speechless. Good stuff - either for a little dessert treat for yourself - or for a group of friends.

P.S. Yes it's 4am and I'm wide awake!

Sarah - That's the beauty of this recipe. It's easy to make for 1 - or 4! Even if you have company, each person gets their own cake, so there's no need to share =)

Veron - Thanks for visiting! Isn't this cake the best? I love it when top chefs make a glamorous recipe so easy to make.

Hi Brilynn! Thanks for stopping by. I was so happy to find that it works well even when I quartered the recipe - do give it a try, it's well worth it!
